9 -11 a.m.

Love fonts? Ever thought about how they’re made? Learn about typographic improvisations and renovations with legendary font designer Chank Diesel. See inspirations for Chank’s early font work, samples of fonts in action and case studies of how custom fonts help create great brands.

About Chank Diesel
Font designer named Chank Diesel makes custom fonts for corporate clients and sells fonts to big and small businesses through this website and many distributors.

Chank’s popular “How to Make a Font” tutorial (recently updated for new operating systems) has inspired a new generation of font designers since the early days of the www. Chank was profiled in The Wall Street Journal in 1997, featured in the New York Times in 2007 and his biography was recently updated in the pages of Communication Arts magazine and MNartists.org.

Chank also does a lot of public speaking on the subject of fonts, creativity, type design and running a small business as a self-employed creative.

Upcoming events (or looking for a few good conversationalists)

Here are some of the meetups and events we’re working on.

Weekly lunchtime chats*
The idea here is to offer a free, low-key discussion on a favorite topic. Patrick Rhone piloted our first chat last week with a discussion on all things Mac. We had about eight people show up and it was perfect. We’re aiming to have one of these a week, usually on a Friday. Next one: A discussion on GTD (Getting Things Done), with Meghan Wilker of Clockwork and the Geekgirls Guide. Beyond that? We’re looking for people who want to host discussions on:

  • Copywriting
  • Web design
  • Mobile app marketing
  • Usability
  • Information architecture
  • Typography
  • Python
  • Joomla
  • Ruby

Got any topics you’d like to suggest (and possibly host)? Please let us know in the comments.
